If you haven’t found the mistake yet, the state between Braun and Rodgers is of much lesser value. Whoever was the only person who did not have access to the internet at a national news station should have still learned the states in grade school. If I remember correctly, each Brewers uniform has a patch on one of the sleeves with the script “M” in front of a shape resembling the state of Wisconsin. You can see the edge of the patch on the Braun cutout. Even if this wasn’t a careless mistake, rather, an act of Minnesotan pride, it is very difficult to knock Wisconsin sports now with potentially two MVPs.

Rory McIlroy won his first Major by 8 strokes on Sunday

First off, I would like to congratulate Rory McIlroy on his victory and overall beat down of the rest of the field to win his first Major at the U.S. Open. He not only played like a champ, but also acted like a champ, thanking his Father and Mother on Father’s day. McIlroy is part of a new surge of young golfers that are infiltrating and succeeding on the PGA Tour. No one was more deserving of a win than McIlroy after his character-building meltdown on Sunday at Augusta.

Enough about the actual golf. The coverage all weekend and after the tournament was completely surrounded by everyone declaring McIlroy as the next big name in golf and the heir to Tiger’s throne. I would caution everyone in sports media to heed my words. Do not fall under the trap of immediacy. Just because he had an outstanding margin of victory in his first win does not mean he’s going to break Nicklaus’ record of 18 Major Championships. Some analysts were already giving him 1 to 1 odds to win the British Open. Remember the NBA finals? Remember when the Heat was up two games on the Mavericks? Remember the timely comparisons of LeBron to Jordan and Chamberlain? In the words of Herman Cain, “How’s that working out for you?” Face it, we all throw a twig in the trap of immediacy always trying to find a comparison to the all-time greats. Please though, keep your hands and feet inside the tram of analytics and wait beyond McIlroy’s first Major.

Golf is one of the sports, alongside hockey, where HD greatly improves the viewing experience. I was satisfied after receiving my fill of thirst-quenching liquid crystals (LCD) after the final plush 18 holes on Sunday afternoon. However, with the serge of youth on the PGA tour, fashion fads have followed; namely the very popular white pants. I really don’t mind them as they are a little mark of rebellion against the stern country club look. What really bothers me is when old men like Davis Love III wear them. He pretty much lived in a country club his entire childhood and I’m sure he thinks he’s “down with the youth” by wearing them. Instead, he comes across as the 47 year old (his real age) that tries to remain hip and covers himself in Ed Hardy merch. Just wear some neutral colors and leave the white pants to guys who are going to push you into the senior tour very soon.
